Saturday July 7th, 2007: A date that shall live in infamy?

Post by Serious Paul »

So my brother is returning from North Carolina next month, and along his way he is stopping to purchase some fireworks. Five hundred dollars worth. So I decided what the hell, why not make this a party.

So the when: Saturday July 7th, the weekend right after the fourth of July

The Where: Michigan, we have a spot but basically it's near Greenville MI. On 27 acres of land, with a river running through it.

The Who: Anyone who can make it. We're grilling, chillin' and detonating a massive amount of fireworks in a secluded part of the country side. (Assuming the weather cooperates.)

The Why: Fire! Fire over the river!

So who'd be interested?

We have two small small fire pits on site which can be made larger, and plenty of trees to cut down for fuel. There is also a creek and swamp as well as nice dry areas and a field.

We have a decent sized grill as well as a smaller one, so we'll have the ability to cook for a larger group of people.

If you plan on coming let Paul or I know and we can get you more details.

I hope to see most of you guys there!

Edit: This will house a running tally of all who have expressed interest or confirmed. This is just for me to be able to keep track of who is coming.

Well... I'm kind of hoping to keep the broken things to a minimum but with the group of people we know are coming already, and the $500 dollars of quasi-legal fireworks we have lined up, I'm sure SOMETHING is bound to be broken/set on fire.

Have you warned the local ambulance company?

Meh, dad has several fire extinguishers and we have a creek. If need be we'll just start throwing people in the creek if they catch fire. And, you know, we will be way too far out in the middle of no-where for the ambulance or fire department to get there in time to be of any real use.

This one might be tough for us, the monthly haflas got moved to that weekend instead of the normal first tuesday of the month like usual.

That means I might need to DJ.

There is also a chance I might be in Germany again.

I will keep ya posted.

Yes, please do keep us posted. We'd love to have you, so hopefully we can work things out but if not, we will have another one. Or, Paul and I can go over to Chicago-area to visit. I kind of like the idea of taking a weekend every summer and heading over. We'll see.

I'll see what it looks like for me at work. I wouldn't keep my fingers crossed though.

Nothing to do with being responsible, and everything to do with them firing me if I don't get the time off approved. I like buying gaming books too much to not work.

Take 57 East, towards Carson, and make a left on Grow. Grow takes you to W. Station, right on W. Station, and mum and dad live down there. I will have a barrel or ballons or something to mark the drive since it is dirt, and easy to miss. Also, they are back about 1/4 of a mile, and the drive is winding, so the house can't be seen.

I wonder if I can find a cow statue and put combat boots on it. THAT would mark the spot well.

Unfortunately, due to an addiction to my meager paycheck, the complete inability to drive for more than 10 hours in a day, and being located on Long Island, I will be unable to attend. It's probably for the best. I tend to wind up drunk and half naked at large parties.
Just...someone, please, set a stick on fire, chuck it into the water, and giggle for me.

If I hadn't already allocated my travel budget for this year, this line would make me seriously consider flying to Long Island just to drive you there myself. :D

Our attendance will be largely dependant on my work situation (and Katie's). I'm putting it on the calendar though.

Well, I'd like to, but 1) I have a 4th of July engagement already, but I can't remember if it's the weekend before or after and 2) I'll only have been working for a month by then (at a temporary, not-career type job = doesn't pay too well) so I don't know that I could afford it. Sooooo, probably not but I'll see if there's a chance I can work it out.

Okay everyone, who's up for it? I've gotten confirmation from a couple of other people so things are looking good.

We will be providing hot dogs, hamburgers, veggies and drinks. If you want anything else, bring it. I will have some alcohol there, probably hard liquor, but if you want beer or wine you will have to bring it as did didn't make wine last year.

I will be e-mailing everyone the address to the gathering site so if you don't get an e-nail by tonight, please post a reminder here along with your e-mail address, or send me an e-mail at

Tomorrow's the day, guys. Check SeriousPaul's LJ post and if you can't see that, then you should have gotten an e-mail. If you didn't get the e-mail then we probably IM'd you. If you didn't get any of those, then you suck and we didn't want you there anyway.
