[Lyrics] Black Tie Affair

Post by MissTeja »

So, I've been on this Chicago kick recently and learning of my love for big-band/jazz music. Tried to play around on something of my own.

Black Tie Affair

High-heeled shoes,
And pretty ladies dancin'.
Some damn fine booze,
And old folks laughin'.
At the Black Tie Affair.

Jazz music, live,
Where men in tuxes grin.
You, too, can feel the vibe.
And drink classic, old gin.
At the Black Tie Affair.

Come one, come all.
Don your fanciest dress.
A night of pure pleasure,
Far better than the rest.
Ladies meet a gent,
Sophisticated with style.
Gentlemen, meet a lady,
With a thousand-dollar smile.

Friends will mingle,
Coins will jingle,
Married or single,
You can get that tingle,
At the Black Tie Affair.

[Gentleman]: Greetings, M'lady,
Would you like more wine?
[Lady]:No, but dance with me, Sir.
[Gentleman]: The pleasure's all mine.

A night without end,
For you never see the sun.
Be yourself or pretend.
Oh, you're sure to have fun.
At the Black Tie Affair.

Be a Prince for the night.
Get that euphoric feeling.
It can't be more right.
You will kiss the ceiling.
At the Black Tie Affair.

Come one, come all.
Don your fanciest dress.
A night of pure pleasure,
Far better than the rest.
Ladies meet a gent,
Sophisticated with style.
Gentlemen, meet a lady,
With a thousand-dollar smile.

You can be a Princess.
It will be the best.
Full of happiness,
Do enjoy the fest.
At the Black. Tie. Affair.
To the entire world, you may be one single person, but to one person, you may be the entire world.

Nice, I like the last little bit myself.
You can be a Princess.
It will be the best.
Full of happiness,
Do enjoy the fest.
At the Black. Tie. Affair.
I just get this picture of every mob movie dance hall scene I have ever seen. So coolness!

As I said in your LJ, I'm very much considering trying to write a ska song or three around these lyrics you've been popping out. I like 'em a lot. (I'd do big band stuff, but that's a whole hell of a lot more complicated. :))

This sounds like the opening song to a musical. A mafia love story, set to jazz and tap dancing. 'Romie and Julio'.

I like it
