[SR] Real World vs. Game World Vehicle Stats

Post by Jackal »

Anyone know a way to convert real world 0-60 stats to come up with a vehicles acceleration rating?

No, because Acceleration Tests (like everything else in SR) make no sense if you have a Rigger with a small pile of dice in a car who can accelerate a vehicle to literally 100 m/round (it only takes 10 successes in a Eurocar Westwind 2000, which is simple to get with 12 dice -- skill 6 + 6 control pool) in a single action (and still have 3 actions left to go for that round, which, incidentally, is 3 seconds long). That's ~0-75 mph in less than a second, for those playing the home game.

That said, 60 mph is ~75 Speed (meters / round), so you need to have acceleration * successes possible in a given range of time = ~75. I'd assume an unenhanced driver to have 1-2 actions per round and a skill of 4-6. Let's set it at 3 successes per action and 3 actions total over 6 seconds (2 rounds) for a decent professional driver, so... 9 successes over 6 seconds would get a vehicle with an acceleration 8 to 72 meters/round in approximately 6 seconds, which is pretty close to what we need, so we'll call it good.

Acceleration 8 = 0-60 in 6 seconds for a decent, but not great, professional driver. Did that help? :p

Well, the car that I'm really wanting to convert is the Porsche Carrera GT.

Most the stats are easy to convert. It's got a top speed of about 275, made of smart materials, and will only have 2-3 CF of storage when complete.

See, just from those stats you can see the disparity between SR and real life... It isn't possible to have a car hit 62 in 3.9 and not have it reach 124 in 7.8 simply because the mechanics have you accelerate purely linearly. That said, I'd go with something around 12. 5 successes will get you to 60 m/round or 45 mph. Assume you can get that in one round (skill 6 TN 2 and a single action) and you'd be about on target for 0-60 in 4 seconds.
