Dunno. I like it. It combines the better aspects of 2nd and 1st edition DnD with more tables than you can shake a stick at.

On the other hand...eight monster supplements (good ones, too). Plus an index. A HUGE GM screen. And now a coupon book?

Dave Kenzer was at the con last weekend. One of his current gaming group, which has evolved to 6-12 year-olds IIRC, made a comment along the lines of, "I can't wait to grow up and I'm smart enough to play Hackmaster." His regular game being 3e.

I'm going to be Hackmastering soon. It frightens me, but in a good way.
