There is then a need to guard against a temptation to overstate the economic evils of our own age, and to ignore the existence of similar, or worse, evils in earlier ages. That's probably one of the first links related to political/societal discussion I've actually enjoyed in a long time.
The data there is really fascinating, but the real prize is the format/presentation. Seeing something like that in school would have made me pay a hell of a lot more attention in economics. That's very impressive work on Hans' part.
