I Laugh In CE's General Direction

In the SST forum, users are free to discuss philosophy, music, art, religion, sock colour, whatever. It's a haven from the madness of Bulldrek; alternately intellectual and mundane, this is where the controversy takes place.

You know what's cool about that story? This:

"We are victims of our name," said Hell, whose name is of Austrian origin.

Hear that? Hell is a name of Australian origin. We have the coolest names.

Well, they shouldn't let me in, either, since my last name is derived from Hölle, the German word for Hell. Oh, wait, intent doesn't matter - Hell doesn't mean Hell in Austrian, so far as I know - only out-of-context interpretation.

Still, how cool would it be to have the name "Max Hell?"

Austria is just that journalist's way of spelling Australia, and we all know it.

Y'know, it's pretty ironic that in German, 'Hell' means 'Light', as in, the opposite of dark.

You have to wonder if Max Hell and his dad bothered to point that out to them.

The funniest name I've encountered in real life:

I vaguely know a pair of idiot LARPer types, the sort of people known to give their children pretentious first names. Their recently born son's name is, I swear to Christ, Maximus Johnson.

There's a semi-local parental duo known as the Carrs. They thought it would be hilarious to name their kid Antique.

True story: back in college, I had a friend named Lincoln Hills. Yes, he had a name that sounds like a golf course. It could be worse, though, as he frequently pointed out. His mother's name was Beverly. :cute

When I was in elementary school (in America) I knew a boy named Steven Cox, and his brother's first name was Harry.

I did a credit report for a guy with the first name Six Pack.

I even verified by looking at his drivers license.

When I was working at Quixtar, a middle-aged woman called up for tech support whose full legal name of record was "Banana." She seemed pretty exhausted by it.
