Porn...and questions [Women's Views]
I know we've have a few threads on the topic, but I'm curious how the women of BD view the porn industry. Do you enjoy pornography? Are you offended by it? Does it make you feel bad about yourself if your significant other is into it?
My mother is absolutely offended by the sexual objectification of women. Do the women of today feel that pornography completely debases them as a gender? And how does your views about pornography affect your attitudes toward men?
My inquiring mind wants to know.

If you take away their comforts, people are just like any other animal.

I'm sure you already know my own views, so I'll just throw out a few varying points I have seen:
My exwife thought porn was funny. She didn't hate it, she just thought it was designed for men, not women. In her opinion porn was designed for men becuase it relies so heavily on visual cues. She said a lot of women need more than that.
The girl I am sort of seeing, shhh! It's a secret! Likes porn. A lot. She cues much more visually than alot of women I have met.

On a similar topic, what do women think about restaurants like Hooters? My friend, his fiancee (Jake and Mellisa) and I went out to the Daytona Wing House. It's the local copy of Hooters. On the way out she said "I was suprised, I was expecting the place to be degrading to women." After a short conversation, I came to find out that her entire opinion was based on second and third had info. Thoughts?

I'm totally cool with porn/hooters/etc. I don't personally get too much enjoyment out of porn, but I do watch it for shits and giggles. I find it rather humorous, because it's so often fake-seeming. But on occasion, I'll find some porn that actually seems more like a home video than a porno, and them I really like. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy when I see a couple (gay, straight, or otherwise) that truly seems to love each other and not just want a quick fuck. Maybe I'm just sappy, but I find that far more sexually appealing than two people just out for a wild night.
On the other hand, sometimes I do get turned on by the slightly kinkier porn. Think handcuffs, ass paddling, and perhaps the occasional scripted quazi-rape scene. I'm just full of surprises.
I don't find porn degrading, nor do I find it offensive. I don't get upset if I find out my boyfriend/girlfriend is into porn. Honestly, in my opinion, it's just as natural as anything else that we freakish humans do. It's sex. It satisfies one of our primal instincts. Deal with it.

Porn comes in a wide variety, saying I like it all would be lying. I like some, I could go into great detail on what does it for me but I'll spare you the visuals. Never met any women that said they were "into" porn. Most appear to be somewhat ambivalent to it. Personally I think it serves a purpose, if there wasn't it wouldn't be there. Afterall one doesn't really watch it for the indepth story lines, it fills a purpose. So if one doesn't like it, then don't watch it.

Eh, I don't mind porn, again it falls into that whole "if it doesn't hurt anyone and makes someone happy, then whatever". I'm not into visiual porn, but I'm into well-written erotic stories. So to each their own.
Resturants like Hooters and Wing House don't bother me since it's not like they're coercing the women to work there. They're obvious well endowed fems (naturally or not) who enjoy flaunting. There's guys who like to look, the ladies make money, the guys get to have some nice scenery while eating, it's all good.
Sex is a driving instinct with humans, for some it's stronger than others, but totally denying it seems unhealthy to me for some reason.

Girls of my acquaintence who like anime and manga don't have a problem with sexual themes or aspects of anime and manga...and some of the shit that comes out at the viewings I go to (not to mention the after-parties) is pretty frickin' kinky. That said, I think most of them either don't care or think it's funny. I haven't met any of those girls rumored to be heavily into yaoi or anything. At least, not that I know of.
I can't say I've ever discussed actual porn with regular girls, though. Although I was once forced to watch a really crappy David Bowie movie with these three chicks in a cramped dorm room because he had a full frontal nudity scene (and I was heavily flirting with one of the girls at the time and these were her/our friends.)

I'm really not into much porn. I've seen it and it just seemed rather stupid to me. I'd get far more turned on by a steamy scene in a film or a book with a plot, and with characters that seemed like real people - than I would with some of the porn that is out there, with no plot, and with actors who don't deserve such a title.
I think many of my chick friends lie about porn, too, and say they're totally into it when they are not, or would at least prefer to know their man is more turned on by them, than by what is on screen. And I *really* don't like seeing advertisements for any of that S&M, beast-y, etc. crap. Ugh. That shit really disgusts me. Guys need to realize that chicks do not automatically like the chains and whips idea. It's for some people, not for others.
I don't blame porn solely, per se, for the objectification of women, but I think they add to it. I think it's society and the media at large that is primarily responsible. Porn just adds to it. The average woman is not built anything like the female porn star. She's shorter, heavier, less aestheically pleasing, and often has physical "ailments" that don't show up in the porn industry - like unequal breast sizes, facial or torso hair, imperfect teeth, ugly feet -etc. (all of which are actually incredibly common for females, but aren't talked about publicly because they're not fitting the "pretty" image of women and are therefore considered characteristics that make you bad and/or ugly).
It is commonly said that one of the main reasons most women dislike porn is because they feel they are being put in comparison with the female(s) on screen. Confidence, or lack there of, is not even so much an issue. Confident or not, most women don't like being subjected like that against other women regarding intimacy issues. Same reason why one of the main rules of dating is to *not talk about your ex's*. It doesn't make you look attractive - it drives the other person away.
Some women /do/ like porn, especially ones who are physically attracted to the female sex. (Not homosexual neccesarily, just that they find other females attractive - also quite a common thing but not discussed much).
Restaurants like Hooters make me laugh, because often the chicks have Hooters, but their faces look like they hit a brick wall. Women who choose to work in those jobs don't really get much respect from me, but that's just because of my personal beliefs and morals. I don't really care if they think poorly of me either for holding myself to a higher standard. It was a standard I was raised with and one I believe in. You wanna come off as a slut, I'll treat you like one. Bitchy? Maybe a bit. I don't care.
And that's my opinion on the matter.

I've heard (from the women who were straight but went anyways because that's where people were going, so I'm willing to trust their opinion on it) that a lot of the food is fairly good, for what it is.lorg wrote:Is the food any good? or is it just a place for looking at boobies without actually having to go to a stripclub.

The food at Hooters is, well, okay. I wouldn't want to pay money for it, but any time I've gone I've been drunk and hungry.
I've had friends who worked there. I dated a girl who worked there. And from talking with them, most of the guys who came in were not there for the food. They were there to see boobs. Well, boobs in a tight tank top and push-up bra.

Why do just guys need to realize this? People need to realize this -- there are chicks that like chains and whips and the whole power-play thing, and there are guys that don't like it.MissTeja wrote:I think many of my chick friends lie about porn, too, and say they're totally into it when they are not, or would at least prefer to know their man is more turned on by them, than by what is on screen. A lot of porn chicks, actually, are pretty unattractive when you get to the "details" level, such as teeth and whatnot. This is more prevelant in porn movies as opposed to pro photo porn -- most of which is post-processed like crazy, which is why the girls in Playboy always look like they're not real -- because they aren't.The average woman is not built anything like the female porn star. Anyone watching porn and expecting reality -- or expecting reality to be like porn -- is deluded.
On that note. What a crappy show that is, but then I guess I am not the target audience. I couldn't even watch a single episode. I completely fail to see the point of it. But then I didn't see the point of sex in the city either, what a sleeping pill of a show that was.Patience wrote:I had to google that. Wow. OK so Hooters is a boobs place and the food is so and so. Guess I haven't missed much then.
On a related note, Andrea Dworkin has passed away. I personally thought she was a nutcase, but she was an influential one.

Oops. Thanks for catching that one. I did mean people in general, not men in particular. It's just a common generalization in society that members of both sexes are often guilty of.Adam wrote:Why do just guys need to realize this?
And that makes sense. Most of the pornographic images I have ever seen have been photographic, not video. Filming uses make-up, but that would make sense for me to make such a presumption since most photographs are easier to master than film.A lot of porn chicks, actually, are pretty unattractive when you get to the "details" level, such as teeth and whatnot. I dunno - I think people's views on pornography are going to vary based on their nationality and culture, as well as their personal experiences. I mean, someone who lives in a nation where pornography is readily accepted and perhaps encouraged is going to look better on it than I, a student from a nation where such is taboo, who is mastering her graduate studies on the topic of commercial sexual exploitation of young women, would. This doesn't make me right or them wrong, per se, just in grasp of different opinions. It's important that everyone, myself included, remembers that before casting judgement.

It's also much easier to do post-production to remove blemishes and enhance overall appearance on still images as opposed to moving images.
Few still images you see in any publication haven't been manipulated in some ways -- I'm remembering pictures of a train crash within the last two years, where several newspapers edited a severed leg so it appeared grey and thus blended more into the background, to be "less disturbing."

Eh, I don't much care. Never watched any porn really, there was never any real desire to :7 But if other people have fun with it, sure, fine, knock yourselves out.
Hooters, I gotta agree with Teja, the once or twice I've been there its been staffed by women whose boobs are so obviously fake its laughable and ones who were utterly unattrative save for the fact they're shoving their boobs out the top of their shirt. I mean, I'm sure there are attractive women there(I just haven't seen any), but I mean quite honestly, if you look that good and have no problems in those kinds of outfits, you'd make better money at a strip club. And the food's okay, but not worth what they charge for it.

Yep, I enjoy porn, I’m one of those women who likes to watch it, or look at it, but not the stuff that seems to be oozing all over the internet. Whomever is in the porn (photographs or videos) needs to appear to be enjoying it, and not looking off towards the wall or someplace.UncleJoseph wrote:I know we've have a few threads on the topic, but I'm curious how the women of BD view the porn industry. Heck no, hip hop videos piss me off, but porn… nope. Are you offended by it?

I can’t imagine having a problem with a restaurant like that, except… I remember seeing a tv show or a movie once where a father took his kids (two boys and his little girl) there to eat. I have a problem with exposing children to such places, since they’re obviously catering to the sexuality of adults, why allow kids?
I totally agree, when a video shows two people that are really into each other or what they’re doing it beats emotionless fucking any day.Kitt wrote: It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy when I see a couple (gay, straight, or otherwise) that truly seems to love each other and not just want a quick fuck. I’ve yet to meet a guy who was into chains and whips (Bondage, light or heavy, or whatever else that might be), but I have to think about how many girls I have met that aren’t. As for the advertising, every second billboard in Vienna is of a nude woman, either selling a yogurt drink or body oils. It gets tiresome to comment on it, it seems to be the mindset in advertising in Vienna that everything needs a woman’s body in order to sell, seriously, I wasn’t joking about the naked women selling yogurt drinks. Hell, they have a commerical for shoes that shows two lesbians kissing, nipples exposed (EXPOSED), and this a shoe commerical.MissTeja wrote:I think many of my chick friends lie about porn, too, and say they're totally into it when they are not, or would at least prefer to know their man is more turned on by them, than by what is on screen. HUH? It must be an American thing, cause I have never heard of this before. I’m serious. Please don’t get pissed at me, I just read it and my jaw dropped. Who compares their partner to porn actors??!! Also… Who doesn’t talk about their ex’s????!! It’s fun! Don’t you love asking and answering tons of questions about ex-partners? This is might be the case, but watching two people having sex is interesting, even if you don’t like watching your own gender doing it.Some women /do/ like porn, especially ones who are physically attracted to the female sex. (Not homosexual neccesarily, just that they find other females attractive - also quite a common thing but not discussed much).
What makes your standard any higher than their’s? Just because they wear a tight t-shirt while working 40+ hours a week while working in a (most likely) high stress job makes them sluts? It was a standard I was raised with and one I believe in. You wanna come off as a slut, I'll treat you like one. Bitchy? Maybe a bit. I don't care.
I’m going to agree with you on that, at least for me, I get far more out of reading an erotic story than from watching a movie. Final thoughts on porn, more people in porn videos need to learn how to eat pussy. Two things you do not do while eat pussy, spit on her clit, or non-rhythmic licking, but in some of the porn I’ve seen there seems to be that theme, spit on her and stop licking so you can rub your mustache against her. What the hell?!?

Intrestingly some of the videos could easily substitute for softcore porn. But they still get rotation on MTV etc.Angel wrote:Heck no, hip hop videos piss me off, but porn… nope.
Depends on how plastic fantastic they are, obvious fakes (the once that look like melons are small soccer balls). Normally I don't care that much beyond that they usually look ridiculous and then I watch something else. So plastic boobs doesn't do much for me, nor does gangbang or any kind of group sex.Angel wrote:I have to wonder sometimes if guys actually like some of the porn out there, and if any of them ever fantasize about plastic breasts and cumming on women’s faces. The facial cumshot is the current (ok it has been for some time now) trend in pornoland. Go back say 10 years or so and it wasn't. Almost like it is hard (no phun) to find movies that doesn't feature anal or some for of group sex. It doesn't really do much for me.
The absolut majority of porn is made for men, I would say in the high ninetieth percentile.Angel wrote:I’m guessing that a large majority of porn is made for men, not women, but there are a lot of places online that you can find (download, or buy) porn made to cater to women’s tastes.
Shoes for men or women? Are they for men then the basic outline is probably "if you buy these should you could be doing lesbians". If they are for women I just don't know. Wear these shoes and you could become one? or they are just trying to go for shock value, but if everyother ad is nude people I don't see how ...Angel wrote:Hell, they have a commerical for shoes that shows two lesbians kissing, nipples exposed (EXPOSED), and this a shoe commerical.
Nope. Never compared any of them to pornstars, hopefully I have not been compared either cause it would be Ron Jeremy scary. Talking about x's? Never.Angel wrote:HUH? It must be an American thing, cause I have never heard of this before. I’m serious. Please don’t get pissed at me, I just read it and my jaw dropped. Who compares their partner to porn actors??!! Also… Who doesn’t talk about their ex’s????!! It’s fun! Don’t you love asking and answering tons of questions about ex-partners? Seriously, or is it just me?
Perhaps that is a gender thing but I doubt most guys would want to see two (or more) guys doing eachother in any kind of fashion or way.Angel wrote:This is might be the case, but watching two people having sex is interesting, even if you don’t like watching your own gender doing it.
I would have to agree with that. Just working and wearing the uniform hardly makes them sluts.Angel wrote:What makes your standard any higher than their’s? Just because they wear a tight t-shirt while working 40+ hours a week while working in a (most likely) high stress job makes them sluts?
Me personally? Not really. I can read it, thinking it is good but beyond that it doesn't really do anything for me.Angel wrote:I’m going to agree with you on that, at least for me, I get far more out of reading an erotic story than from watching a movie. But honestly, I thought guys read erotica too, don’t they?
One of those things that work only in pornoland. The odd thing is that they also do the same in lesbian movies, ok so they are lesbian movies made for men to but they still do it the same way. So it hardly works as a teaching tool.Angel wrote:Final thoughts on porn, more people in porn videos need to learn how to eat pussy. Two things you do not do while eat pussy, spit on her clit, or non-rhythmic licking, but in some of the porn I’ve seen there seems to be that theme, spit on her and stop licking so you can rub your mustache against her. What the hell?!?
There is a list that usually pops up in forums and on the web with stuff that only works in pornoland and this one is usually on there.

I've known a few people who have compared their life to pornographic videos. When you mention to them that XXX movies are fake, and that often scenes are spliced together, well they get all puzzled looking.
It's easy to look like amillion bucks with a staff of physical trainers, make up artists and more. Hollywodd, and not just the adult studioes, definitely pushes an image of how we are supposed to look. More than a few people buy into this image.
I know of a few men who enjoy blasting a woman in the face with their seed-but I think that has less to do with actual lust, and more to do with trust and acceptance. Everyone wants to be wanted, some of us just have different ways of showing it.
My current partner in flagrant delecto is quite understanding-much more so than any woman I can remember in recent history. Because she wants to satisfy me she would do any number of things. I feel it is incumbent on me to not abuse that trust.

No...women *feel* like their partner is comparing them (even if he isn't).Angel wrote:HUH? It must be an American thing, cause I have never heard of this before. I’m serious. There is some literalism though. Especially amongst the younger, more inexperienced people. I know a guy who for years thought women liked to lay at home and masterbate while wearing lingerie. Not just some women, all women. It took him a few years to break some of his preconceived notions.
While we're discussing stereotypes can we hit on what people think of ethnic sexual generalizations? Do all black women suck a mean dick, dreckcetera...? What are peoples thoughts in this area? I am interested to hear.

Never heard that one, could be cause there are so few black women here. All black guys are HUGE. All asian women are super tight? Was it something like that you had in mind?

Seriously? Our experiences differ then.Angel wrote:I’ve yet to meet a guy who was into chains and whips (Bondage, light or heavy, or whatever else that might be), but I have to think about how many girls I have met that aren’t.
Yes. Which is why I made the nationality-culture comment.Angel wrote:it seems to be the mindset in advertising in Vienna that everything needs a woman’s body in order to sell
Few people. But that was not what I said, either.Angel wrote:Who compares their partner to porn actors?
Oh no, this is not just you. There are several who find the need to discuss ex's. However, at least in the social norms I was raised in, such is looked upon poorly. Most girls I know personally do not want to go into a first date and listen to a gentleman's recount of all the women he's banged or why all of his previous relationships have gone up in smoke. Same with guys. That's, of course, probably just the hole I was evidently raised in.Angel wrote:Also… Who doesn’t talk about their ex’s????!! It’s fun! Of course it is. I think women are attractive and I think seeing it is interesting, but it doesn't do anything for me and I think much of the filmed stuff is really quite silly.Angel wrote:This is might be the case, but watching two people having sex is interesting, even if you don’t like watching your own gender doing it.
Because it's my standard. People are inherently judgmental of one another. Someone who says they're completely non-judgmental is most likely quite full of it. We can try not to be, but rarely can anyone not be. I consider my standard to be higher than theirs because it's based on principals I believe in.What makes your standard any higher than their’s? Just because they wear a tight t-shirt while working 40+ hours a week while working in a (most likely) high stress job makes them sluts?
And I did not say just because they "wear a tight t-shirt while working 40+ hours a week while working in a (most likely) high stress job makes them sluts." If that were true, I'd hate half of the people in the world. I'm saying, the majority go to Hooters not for their Hot Wings. It's a well-known reason why people go to Hooters. I think girls who work there, knowing this, are in an unhealthy need for attention and likely, have some serious low self esteem issues. But of course, I must be not all right in the head cause I'm evidently the minority here.
Yeah? That is, after all, why I posted it...Angel wrote:But you’re the one who has made the quickest and strongest judgements so far (in this thread).MissTeja wrote: I dunno - I think people's views on pornography are going to vary based on their nationality and culture, as well as their personal experiences.
Feel free to rebute and kill my opinion. It doesn't really phase me. I've gotten my point across now so I'm done here. UncleJoesph just asked for opinions, so I gave mine. I acknowledged that my interpretations of porn were nothing more than personal opinion. I never stated them as fact, or to inspire debate. Hopefully Joesph got my opinion of it.

Re: Porn...and questions [Women's Views]
I'd rather a well-written story than a badly-acted video. I haven't ever seen a good video.UncleJoseph wrote:I know we've have a few threads on the topic, but I'm curious how the women of BD view the porn industry.
Porn as porn doesn't offend me - it's just sex. Porn as advertising does. That's where you get into sexual objectification, and degrading women, IMO. And yeah, I can get pretty irate about it.
If the guy I'm with is interested, then I'm going to take an interest, just to see what turns him on if nothing else. If it makes him happy, I'm all for it. If he was a lot more interested in the porn than in me, there'd be a problem.
We don't have Hooters over here, so I can't exactly comment. But it sounds close to the the line to me - using sex to sell food. Is there a hands-off policy? I wouldn't want to work there, but you don't necessarily have no self-respect just because you do.
Women (people) seem to compare themselves to other women(people) entirely too much, anyway. Of couse they will compare themselves to porn stars etc, even if their partners don't. To look from the other side, how many women have had boyfriends get jealous of them drooling over other guys? I certainly have. Some guys don't want you to be too interested in porn, because then they start to have to worry about unfavourable comparisons.

I think there's a big difference between talking about ex-partners during a first date/initial meeting, and talking about them in general. Your first post seemed to say "Thou shalt never talk about the ex" -- which seems a bit unreasonable for a variety of obvious reasons -- but the second post "Thou shalt not talk about the ex on a first date" makes a whole lot of sense.MissTeja wrote:Oh no, this is not just you. Oh my, yes! Hands are allowed on chicken breasts, not human breasts. Think of Hooters as a place where the women wear tight tank tops (although I ahve seen t-shirts before) and short shorts. *shrug*Is there a hands-off policy?

I haven't noticed any (besides managers and cooks). I think the non-American Drekkers have a different impression...

Hooters really isn't that kind of place. It's just a diner with "beautiful" women in skimpy outfits that serve you. They're actually marketing themselves as a "family restaurant" nowadays.Toryu wrote:There probably are quite a few bouncers around, ja?Cash wrote:Oh my, yes!
