New Tech: What are you looking forward to?

New Tech: What are you looking forward to?

Post by Ancient History »

So, I hear that in about 5 years we're scrapping traditional music CDs with their 16-bit, 44.1K Hz music for some really funky DVDs with 24-bit, 96K Hz recordings. Which sounds liek fn to me, 'cause some bright boy will get the idea to build a plug-in screen and then I'll have an affordable DVD player with some kick-ass hi-fidelty sounds.

That's all I've heard recently that really excites my tech-wise. I mean, there are people going insane with their PDAs and their options: the plasma screens, the virtual keyboards (LED projected and the outcoming virtual glove routine), the strap-to the forearm-so-I-can-type-one-handed models.

Billy Gates is working on a bigger and better OS.

Holographic screen technology is supposedly coming along nicely.

Neural interface tech might be reaching the point beyond "I can click the icon without touching the mouse" and apes manipulating mechanical arms.

But nothing very cool in massive amounts. No huge expansion in alternative fuel cars or increased use in VR gear for home purposes.

Anybody else have a new tech they've heard about and are waiting excitedly for?

Well, according to old science-fiction we are only 3 to 5 years late on flying cars :)

So I can still dream on I guess.

We've had flying cars. In fact, there's still a few models around. Though it's unlikely they'll make it in the modern world.

But we do have movies about them.

A technology that will render everyone mute, and therefore they must resort to sign language. Ah yes, that's my life.

Fusion power would be nice. But Thermal Depolymerization looks quite interesting to. More effective and cheaper desalinization plants is another good one.

Could Flame be the next Bond villian?

The next Bond villian is James Bond Jr., the illegitimate product of some tryst or other with congenital syphyllis.

They could use a different actor in every movie without ever breaking suspension of disbelief.

If it is good enough for the Simpsons (Treehouse of Horror XII) it is good enough for me :)
