Fun With Technology

Post by Daki »

There was an article in a recent issue of 2600 that talked about how to create a receiver to spy on security camera footage.

And explanation of the process can be found here.

For those out there who like to screw around with technology in new and different ways, I thought you might enjoy this.

I already have all this gear (except the duct tape) at college, and next week I have waaaaaaay too much freetime.

I'll just hook it to the antenna on the rooftop and see what I can get.

We already got some un-coded police radio feed with a special receiver that one of our teacher is not supose to have.

That could be kinda fun :)

If anyone is planning on trying this out, let me know. I'm interested to hear how it works.

Its kinda easy, the wireless video receiver just pick up the the camera signal et play on the screen.

Nowadays many security camera transmision are wireless. So anybody can pick up the siganl if they know the right frequency.

And you could probably whip something up that would automaticly scan for said frequency if you had the know-how.

I tried it today in my free-time between two test.

It didn't find anything, but its normal, there no big building near the college, and the camera system of the college is not wireless. I think wireless camera don't have great power, they don't need to broadcast it over all the city.

I did a great scanning of frequency, even if I didn't pick up any camera I did pick up some wireless phone. Now if only I could borrow the receiver I could probably pick up something near downtown...
