While the world is where I keep all of my stuff, I could easily relocate if I indeed had sufficient power to destroy the world.

I would decline to do so. I find the world much too...amusing to get rid of such a self-replenishing entertainment device.

Well obviously I'd /threaten/ to blow it up. But we all know the hero would arive in time to save the planet but just after I'd left to go to my next secret lair.

That's why you lie about the time. So you catch the hero on the planet when it goes boom.

Isn't that in the Evil Overlord's Handbook?

Something along the lines of "I won't have big red LED countdown timers on my equipment. If for some reason I have to, they will be set such that the bomb explodes when the counter reads 125, at which point the Hero will only be preparing his escape plan"

*Shakes his head* You do not toy with the heroes... you KILL the heroes. No putting them in a dungeon "no one could escape from" or "leaving them on a ship headed for the heart of the sun".

You capture the heroes? You take out a Glock and pullet two bullets in their heads and then BURN the bodies.

First comes the dismemberment and beheading, though. No use taking chances.

And NEVER leave this to your underlings. Always take care of this yourself.

And if your underlings say that the heroes were killed in battle, kill the underling and tell the rest you want a BODY.

Don't forget to explain your entire plan until AFTER the fire dies down. :p

...uhm...
Unfortunately, being able to destroy the world nowadays doesn't necessarily require that much energy... It's too damned easy. Nuke'em 'til They Glow and all...

Now completely wiping out modern society, THAT takes some doin'.

Actually, I would NEVER say what my plans are. Even though I've just watched the heroes' corpses turn to dust, you NEVER KNOW if they had an active transmitter that survived the fire or a little stupid peon underling hiding in the air vent listening in. All they would hear is:

*ZIP* *tinkle tinkle tinkle* Ahhhhh! *ZIP* *footsteps as I walk away*
