But going there just cause we can does sound like a bit of a waste. Wasn't "because we can" the original reason for going to the moon? :) What exactly is an astrobiologist anyway? I would assume that it's a biologist who specialises in... life in space. Presumably, since there are no litt...

Frodo didn't necessarily have "grand plans", but he did think on a larger scale than Sam did. He was a lot more aware of the outside world, and a lot more interested in it, than Sam was - Sam's desires when it came to the outside world were pretty much that he wanted to meet Elves a...

I think part of the point with Sam is that his desires are so simple that he doesn't need the Ring to make them happen. His ambitions, desires and hopes are all on a small scale, so the Ring doesn't look quite as indispensable to him as it does to people who think on a bigger scale.

Good stuff. :) I'm about to start re-reading the Silmarillion, so as I go I may as well make notes about any references to Elvish appearances. Though I think the info we want is more likely to be in one of the supplemental books - Unfinished Tales, and the like - which often have more concentrated w...

True... if you're looking for specific references, you may also find them in the Silmarillion and various Unfinished Tales. I just asked my father for more info; he reads the trilogy pretty much every year, and has done for decades. He said (with about 80% confidence) that most elves are dark-haired...

I just wish they had put as much effort in that kind of thing as they did in Elven styled weapons, armours and so on. I think they put just as much effort into the "person" side of the Elvish look, I think you just disagree with their style choices. Which is, you know, fair enough - but i...

The problem with BSE is that it's absolutely pernicious, so once you've got it it takes a long time to get rid of it. Just ask the UK; it did horrific things to their beef industry.
