I hate overhead lights, so all of the lights in the room are coloured lamps. A couple of lava lamps, a plain green lamp, the computer; all make up the room's lighting.

Besides that, the led's and cold cathodes have off switches, and the processor fan can be dialed down to near silent levels...

Projector all the way man... there's giant monitors and TV's out there, but bang for your buck wise, nothing beats picking a WALL and making it your screen. They're also relatively tiny when compared with the space most displays take up.
